As spring awakens our world, immerse yourself in the healing power of sound. Join us on Wednesday, April 29 for a joyful and restorative sound bath. We invite you to relax deeply while sound frequencies support nervous system regulation, reduce stress, and boost mood. The waves of crystal bowls, gongs, chimes, and other therapeutic instruments washing over you will allow your muscles to soften, breath to deepen, and your mind to settle. Think: less tension, more ease, and a whole lot of “ahhhh.”

You can expect a warm, welcoming environment with healthy snacks and beverages. No prior experience or equipment necessary – the Center for Wellness and Integrative Medicine has everything we need! All you need to do is show up in comfy clothes. Feel free to bring a friend or family member. The building is also physically accessible (there is an elevator).

Hesitant about joining? Don’t take our word for how awesome it is, listen to some people who came to the first one! Below you can read about the experiences of three patients who joined us for our first Wellness Wednesday event, “Yoga, Meditation, & Journaling.”

Before the event, I was at a low vibration and thought that my heart (love) did not belong in this world. Because I am a walking love letter and I tend to get hurt. But I realized that my love (heart) is who I am, and I should be grateful for it. I came to this realization after yoga, sound healing, and journal prompts at Wellness Wednesday. I loved the experience, and it was much needed. Right time, right place, with the right people.” - MJ (He/Him pronouns)

The Wellness Wednesday event at Northwell’s Center for Wellness and Integrative Medicine yoga studio was such a great time. The space was open and bright, with the sun going down and the moon coming up at the same time. They had all the mats, blankets, and blocks ready for us, so we were able to just walk in and get started, though everyone showed up early to chat and indulge in beverages and snacks. There were also stickers, and honestly, who doesn’t love a good sticker.

Lisa, our instructor, was so kind and tuned in to everyone. She walked us through a series of poses, and at one point we paired up for a double tree pose, which was as hard as it looked but also pretty fun. After yoga, we sat in a circle with journals they gave us. Lisa shared a few prompts; my favorite was: “What would happen if you just stopped? Stopped trying to prove yourself, defend yourself?” That’s been something I’ve been working on in the last year, so it was powerful to hear. People ended up reading what they wrote—a lot of the reflections were surprisingly deep, relatable, and a bit poetic.

It was really cool to see everyone outside of the usual settings, and to feel a part of something special that was curated for us. As a trans person, regular exercise is challenging for me because of dysphoria in gym settings and due to the lack of openly inclusive athletic teams. I grew up playing softball, but today I find it hard to feel comfortable on a men’s only or even a coed team. Being in a space with other trans people reminded me that we all deserve access to inclusive spaces that allow us to care for ourselves!” - Emmett (He/Him pronouns)

“For anyone who hasn't attended or is considering attending, let me assure you that these wellness events are genuinely a revitalizing experience.

Before attending my first event, I thought it would be held in a conference room with bright LED lights and a few yoga mats on a carpeted floor. I worried I would be out of my element and might even embarrass myself in front of everyone. To my surprise, it was quite the opposite. When I first arrived, I could feel the positive energy and calming vibrations that immediately made me feel safe and accepted. The room was filled with the warm energy of the sunset. Everyone was friendly, and there was absolutely no judgment or competition.

Our instructor, Lisa Bondy, guided us through very basic, easy-to-follow yoga techniques. After stretching and releasing tense and negative energy, we did a teamwork exercise by splitting into pairs and balancing each other's energy while standing on one leg. The final part of this wellness event was a journaling exercise. We all gathered in a circle, and while there was no pressure at any point to participate, I felt humbled by the honesty, bravery, and courage they showed in this exercise as I listened to people share their thoughts. At the end of the evening, the room was lit up by the moon's glow and vibrations, and we took a group picture together before heading our separate ways.

I felt privileged to be part of this experience and hope that others will take part in these wellness events.” - Rebecca (She/Her pronouns)

We hope to see you there! 🧘🏻
